American Rock Scene interviews Tyranny Of Tradition author Keith Spillet

Last week the heavy metal world sort of got "Punked". An article came out on a blog stating that presidential hopeful Rick Santorum had declared war on heavy metal during a recent speech. The article written by Keith Spillet was complete satire although who wouldn't want to believe that Gwar played Mitt Romney's inauguration when he was elected Governor. We decided to get to the bottom of all the madness that surrounded this most innocent piece of journalist brilliance.

Enjoy the interview, Keith is quite a funny guy and we had a blast!

<itunes:summary>Last week the heavy metal world sort of got "Punked".

Brand new Mace!!!!

Grandfathers of Thrash Mace giving away first new song in 23 years

Earlier this week the story broke that Seattle grunge engineer(Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains) Dave Hillis's first band Mace has reformed. Now they want their fans to have the music for free.

Dave Hillis started his career as a 17 year old guitarist for the legendary thrash metal band "MACE." In the mid 80's, they released two LP's on Enigma Records in the US and Blackdragon Records in Europe. They were featured on Metalblade Records Metal Massacre V, recognized in the Trashmetal Encyclopedia and fanzine's around the world as a pioneering force in heavy metal. Led by Dave's furious guitar work they Charted in the UK. and Japan's top 20; touring with the likes of Slayer, Anthrax, Raven, Death Angel and Testament.

Of course everyone knows Mace guitarist Dave Hillis went on to work on some of the biggest albums in rock history as a producer. (Pearl Jam "10", Alice In Chains "Dirt"...etc) but Mace was always in the back of his mind. Hillis told American Rock Scene, "I always wanted to remix the old songs, and when I opened my own studio I had to do it, and it was so much fun that we thought we would try a new song and that was so much fun that we said why not teach these young kids how it was done back in the day".

A huge part of the Thrash scene back in the 80's was the underground tape trading movement. That would help spread the word like wild fire. Says Hillis when asked how important underground trading was, "We got all our shows on tour and fanzine reviews and interviews that way, giving it away on the internet today is just an extension of that".

Mace is using the 21st century version of tape trading and is giving away Haarp Strings 2012 to their fans for free and they are encouraging them to give it away to anyone they want, no strings attached.

American Rock Scene Interview with Tripping Icarus

Tripping Icarus is a Minneapolis band, formed in 2009 by Andrew Reiner, Chris Kluwe, and Matthew Marshall. It happened like this: Chris knew Andy and Andy knew Matt. They came together and recorded a four song instrumental demo. Using this, they lured Matt's long time friend and former band mate Jesse, into the fold, and kept him chained to the walls of the rehearsal space, letting him out only to gig and record. Jesse has long since surrendered to an irrevocable case of Stockholm Syndrome and so is free to go about what's left of his life, the rest of the band certain of his inability to psychologically break free of them. Tripping Icarus recorded its debut EP at Pachyderm Studios the weekend of the Summer Solstice 2009. Following this, they gigged extensively in the Twin Cities and out-state Minnesota. In the summer of 2010 they began recording their first LP, Perfect Citizen, at Flowers Studios in Minneapolis. Their friend and producer, Andy Lindberg, died unexpectedly near the end of the recording sessions. This record, dedicated to Andy, will be released in the spring of 2011.

As a side note to the music, Chris is the starting punter for the Minnesota Vikings and Andy is the Executive Editor for Game Informer magazine.

American Rock Scene Interview With Sammy Hagar

The American Rock Scene got a chance to sit down next to Sammy Hagar in his dressing room before a show near Tacoma, Washington.

We talked about his book and why he wrote it. We also talked a little about Van Halen.

One thing for sure, the Red Rocker is still in fine form and is full of life. Just being in the same room with him was actually pretty amazing. He exudes some seriously positive vibes and it is clear he loves life and all it has to offer.

Catching up with Miss Vicci Martinez is not an easy task. She is full of energy and is on the go constantly, we did however manage to pull it off and she shared with us a little of what her life is like now. One of my favorite quotes from her was "In this plastic city(LA) there are some really great gems".....as she talked about getting to know people.

Am I Country or Rock with Jared Blake from "The Voice"

We got a chance to talk with Jared Blake out on tour while he attempts to answer the question that he became known for. Are you Country, or are you Rock? To that, Jared answered “I just want to make good music.”, and walks the line between genres — falling one way or another at times, equally.
